“Comfort, strength, healing”

Good Deeds Day is built on the very same principles: small actions that ripple outwards, creating waves of positivity. Just like a hug, every good deed – whether it’s volunteering, helping a neighbor, or sharing kindness – strengthens the invisible bonds between us.

Our partner, the Do-Nation Foundation in Saint Lucia, shared a beautiful reflection on this:
“There are few things in life as powerful as the embrace of a mother. It is more than just a hug – it is comfort, strength, healing, and unconditional love wrapped in one.
In that moment, time stands still. The world fades away, and all that matters is the warmth, reassurance, and unspoken promise that says, ‘You are never alone. I am here.’
This embrace reminds us that love is the greatest act of goodness, one that needs no words but speaks volumes to the heart.”

Creating bonds of love and understanding

Our friends and volunteers from DBA Paraguay also remind us of the deeper meaning behind hugs and love in action:
“True love is the engine that drives us to move forward, to do good, and to create a more humane world. But love is not only felt, it is lived.
You live in the hugs that give us strength, in the shared moments that make us feel connected, in the smiles that light up our day.
When we share our time with others, we create bonds of love and understanding that make us more human. We can create a brighter, more human future for all, where every person feels valued, loved and respected.

TikTok Campaigns as Modern Storytelling

And in Cabo Verde, Portugal, caritas.cb organization, proudly joined the invitation from @diadasboasacoes_portugal and chose to go beyond doing good by spreading solidarity, empathy, and a true sense of belonging. With the incredible support of volunteers, they created a space where every kind word and caring gesture made a real difference in the lives of others. Their actions prove that even the smallest efforts, when fueled by heart, can leave a lasting impact on the lives they touch.

When we think of what it means to do good, it doesn’t always have to be a grand project or a long-term commitment. Sometimes, it’s as simple as extending your arms and offering someone a hug. On Good Deeds Day, and every day, that simple act can change a person’s mood, brighten their outlook, and remind them that they’re not alone.

When hug is shared, it grows stronger

This year, let’s challenge ourselves to give more hugs, more freely, and more intentionally. Whether it’s greeting volunteers at an event, thanking someone for their contribution, or showing up for a loved one, each hug is a deed of its own—a tangible way to spread the goodness that Good Deeds Day celebrates.

Because when goodness is shared, even in the form of a hug, it grows stronger. And together, those small acts of love can transform communities, and the world.

From the embrace of a mother in Saint Lucia, to the bonds of love celebrated in Paraguay, to the solidarity built in Cabo Verde and Portugal—our partners show us that hugs and acts of goodness transcend borders. Together, we are building a global chain of love, one good deed at a time.

The Power of Hugs: What Science Says About Goodness in Action

A hug is one of the simplest ways to show care – yet science tells us it’s also one of the most powerful.

  • Strengthens bonds: Hugs release oxytocin, the “love hormone” that builds trust and emotional closeness.

  • Reduces stress: Just a few seconds of hugging lower cortisol, calming our nervous system and helping us feel safe.

  • The sweet spot: Studies show 5 to 10 seconds is the ideal hug length for comfort and connection.

  • Supports health: Hugging regularly is linked to lower blood pressure, stronger immunity, and even less severe colds.

  • Eases pain: Hugs release endorphins, the body’s natural pain relievers, softening both physical and emotional aches.

  • Protects in stress: A single 20-second hug before a challenge can reduce stress responses afterward.

Why Hugs Matter for Doing Good

Sometimes, Doing good is the small gestures of kindness, like a hug that create the most lasting impact. Science shows that hugs ripple out: when we comfort someone, they feel calmer, healthier, and more supported. That ripple of care can inspire them to pass kindness forward.

On Good Deeds Day, and every day, a hug can be your good deed. Whether it’s greeting a friend, supporting a colleague, or comforting someone in need, these small acts remind us that goodness is rooted in human connection.
