Good Deeds Day Tanzania

Youth constitute a significant majority of Tanzania’s population. That’s why Good Deeds Day 2026 was so impactful because it brought together 700 young people highlighting youth-led initiatives across communities in the East African country.

Tanzania has been participating in Good Deeds Day since 2022 but this 20th anniversary year showcased that young innovators share ideas and solutions on how to make a difference and to communicate their message that their generation can make a real impact, according to a blog from Good Deeds Day. But what is Good Deeds Day?

20 years of Doing Good

Every year, millions of participants in 115 countries around the world unite for Good Deeds Day, a global day of doing good. This day of volunteering and helping communities was founded in 2007 by Israeli businesswoman, philanthropist, and founder of Goodnet, Shari Arison.

From humble beginnings in just one country, Good Deeds Day went international in 2011and grew to be the largest volunteering event in the world.

“Seeing it globally has really touched my heart, and the fact that we have so many partners around the world that have connected and have taken it upon themselves – as if it’s their own is so amazing, Arison said in a press release from GDD.

Good Deeds Day Projects Impacting Youth

Young people in Tanzania face many challenges including a high unemployment rate that limits their access to healthcare as well as the opportunity to develop skills and participate in decision-making processes, according to a statement from Doroth Namuhisa, the Good Deeds Day director in Tanzania.

But despite these issues, the youth have a spirit of resiliency and a capacity to navigate challenges and a strong commitment to their community that leads them to contribute through volunteering and that is where Good Deeds Day comes in. In Tanzania, Good Deeds Day activities that empower youth run year-round. Here are some of the projects.

Good Deeds Day Fair Event: This yearly event attracts thousands of young people and hundreds of organizations to celebrate kindness, volunteerism, and social impact. The event shows the work of youth organizations and how that impacts communities, recruits volunteers, and inspires people to participate in community development and acts of kindness.

Good Deeds Day Sports Bonanza: this project brings young people together through sports and games. This event involves youth centers, schools, and universities. Health experts work with the youth to empower them with positive self-awareness, mental wellness, and social values.

Highlight the Good: This program highlights community  contributions from individual people and organizations. The goal is to recognize and celebrate the impact of these good deeds through public acknowledgment, and this helps to inspire further engagement. Awards of GDD promotional items, certificates, and trophies are handed out at the event. This environment encourages youth to drive meaningful positive change.

This is what gives Namuhisa hope for the future. She told Goodnet, that she lives by the goals of Good Deeds Day to spread goodness around the globe. “Doing Good is my lifestyle.”
