9:00 am - 10:30 am Session 1: Scaling Networks Within the Good Deeds Day Community This session will focus on how GDD leaders can scale their networks leveraging on the existing GDD network. This will enable leaders to boost the impact of their individual efforts to a greater magnitude. The speakers have a great experience with building effective networks. They will offer insights on how to scale networks and good practices that have worked in developing strong national networks. 11:00 am - 12:30 pm Session 2: Developing Strategic Partnership with State Actors, Corporate Organisations and Civil Societies Good Deeds Day activities are geared towards empowering communities and are mainly executed by volunteers. These efforts require partnership across sectors for the actualisation. This session will delve into the ins and outs of developing strategic partnerships with knowledgeable speakers who have been successful in initiating and maintaining lasting partnerships. These necessities the establishment of school clubs where children can engage in activities within their school calendar that are close and of interest to them. The session will entail sharing of tactics of how best to establish school clubs and engage children effectively. 9:45 am - 10:30 am Session 2: Engagement and Partnership with Government in GDD Activities The Good Deeds Day movement has been effective in engaging with governments at different levels in various countries. This has been effective in planning GDD events and even incorporating them in countries calendars. This session will focus on the success stories as well as insights on how to develop a working relationship with the government. 11:00 am - 12:00 pm Session 3: Volunteer Engagement in Disaster Relief Climate change has been a challenge affecting everyone across the globe. In recent times, challenges such as floods and prolonged drought have become a reality to many. Volunteers have been in the forefront of disaster management and relief. 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm Session 4: Women Empowerment and Social Inclusion Women empowerment has been outlined by the United Nations as a sustainable development goal (5) and also seen as integral in attainment of sustainable development. Despite there being great strides across the continent women are still facing inequalities and discrimination at work and in politics, being denied their rights, unequal division of unpaid care work and domestic work, sexual exploitation among other issues. This session will discuss strategies and key learnings of inclusive women empowerment at organisation and community level. 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm Session 5: Involvement of Young People in Social and Community Development The UNFPA estimates that about 60 per cent of Africa’s population is currently below 25 making Africa a youthful continent and the population is expected to keep growing. Such a youthful population requires a lot of mentorship, investment in youth empowerment and above all involvement in key sectors such as social and economic development. This session will provide insights on how to effectively engage young people through volunteerism and good deeds day.
